John Edmond Calderon was born in 1954 in Chicago IL and attended Northern Illinois University where he graduated with his BFA in drawing and painting and a BS in Art Education. After college John continued classes and workshops at The Palette & Chisel in Chicago and more recently, The North Shore Art League in Winnetka and The Evanston Art Center.
In his works, John uses: oils and acrylics on canvas, chalk and oil pastels on paper, and colored pencils and charcoal on paper. He's cited his inspirations as the paintings of John Singer Sargent, Gustave Klimt, Egon Schiele, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Frida Kahlo and the art style of the Huichol Tribes of the Sierra Madre Mountains.
John's enjoyed a diverse career first teaching art for the Chicago Public School System then graphic design. He left the graphic design field to pursue a full time career in portraiture and fine art while teaching classes from his studio in Niles. In 2000, he worked in interior design for a classic contemporary furniture company and is now retired and lives in Deerfield with his wife and dog.
